Abortion Care is available

I need help with . . .
I heard we made abortion legal in Missouri again with the ballot amendment passing, now what?
- At this time, you still need to leave the state to get clinic based abortion care. You can find clinics close to you on ineedana.com or by texting Right By You at 855-458-0886. Please take a look at the resources below for information on finding an abortion provider.
- In the November election, Missourians voted to pass a constitutional amendment regarding abortion. When an abortion amendment passes, there is a legal process that must be followed to remove existing restrictive laws about abortion at the state level. This process can take months to years to be completed and will impact how quickly abortion services can return to Missouri. More information on the process and potential timelines HERE.

I think I might be pregnant.
If you suspect you may be pregnant, the first step is confirming your pregnancy with a pregnancy test. Pregnancy is confirmed by testing blood or urine.
Urine pregnancy test: The soonest urine pregnancy tests are accurate is 14 days from the time of sexual contact that could have resulted in pregnancy. Urine pregnancy testing can be done at home and produces results within minutes. Pregnancy tests are available at pharmacies, grocery stores and dollar stores. There is no need to buy an expensive test – dollar store tests are just as accurate.
Blood pregnancy test: Blood pregnancy tests can produce an accurate result as early as 7-10 days after conception (earlier than urine pregnancy tests). However, these tests require a visit to a healthcare provider, and it can take longer to receive results. Depending on your insurance coverage, the test may cost $50 or more.
If the sexual contact that may have resulted in pregnancy happened fewer than five days ago, you may be able to prevent pregnancy using emergency contraception. Plan B and its generics are available free of charge throughout Missouri while supplies last.
I am in urgent need of emergency contraception to prevent a pregnancy.
Emergency contraception is not an abortion and is legal and available in Missouri.
Emergency contraception helps prevent pregnancy up to 5 days after sexual contact that could result in pregnancy.
Plan B or its generics are available without a prescription to Missourians of any age. You can get free Plan B or its generics from pickup locations across the state. Search for a pickup location here or text 855-458-0886.
If you aren’t near a pickup location, Plan B or its generics are available at most Title X and The Right Time clinics for low or no cost, without parental involvement, on a walk-in basis. Call before you go to make sure it’s available at your nearest clinic.
If you cannot get to a clinic, you may need to visit a local pharmacy or grocery store. Many pharmacies only carry brand name Plan B, which typically costs around $50. They may also keep it locked up or behind a counter, so you may need to ask for it at the store, but it should not be withheld from you.
There are other forms of emergency contraception available that require a prescription from a healthcare professional. If you are interested in finding another form of emergency contraception, text 855-458-0886 for help finding a clinic, or use this clinic finder.
Am I allowed to leave Missouri for an abortion?
Missourians have the right to travel out of the state to access abortion care. There are clinics located near the Missouri border in Kansas and Illinois. To find your closest abortion clinic, visit ineedana.com or text Right by You at 855-458-0886.
There may be legal risks if any part of the abortion takes place in Missouri or another state that has banned abortion. If you have concerns about legal risks, contact the Repro Legal Helpline at 844-868-2812.
I am under the age of 18 and I need an abortion.
In Missouri, abortion is banned regardless of age. Abortion is legal for people under 18 in some nearby states, but there may be restrictions.
In Illinois, people under 18 are not required to tell or get permission from their parents in order to have an abortion. In Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska, people under 18 must either involve their parents in their abortion decision or go through a court process called judicial bypass.

I need an abortion and I do not yet have an appointment.
What you need to know: Even though abortion is illegal in Missouri, it is still legal and available in nearby states.
- Many clinics offer both procedural and medication abortion options.
- Calculate how many weeks pregnant you are. Have this information, or your best estimate, available when searching for clinics and making your appointment.
- Search for clinics nearest to you using tools like INeedAnA.com or AbortionFinder.org.
- Abortion costs range from a few hundred dollars to thousands, becoming more expensive later in pregnancy. For more information on expenses visit “How much does an abortion cost”? Even if you know you don’t have the money to cover your care, make an appointment anyway. There is financial assistance available, but you may not be able to get it unless you have an appointment already scheduled.
- Clinics have varying wait times for appointments, so if you need an appointment urgently, you may need to call multiple clinics within the distance you can travel to determine which clinic has the shortest wait time.
- Once you have decided which clinic will work best, make an appointment right away to avoid a delay in care. Some clinics allow you to schedule online, while others will require scheduling by phone.
If you have questions or need any assistance finding a clinic or making an appointment, text Right By You at 855-458-0886 for confidential and anonymous help.
I have an abortion appointment scheduled and I need help paying for my abortion.
What you need to know: By scheduling your appointment, you have already taken the first step. Most abortion funds will only commit funding after you have your appointment. Even if your appointment is coming up and you don’t yet have the funding figured out, you are strongly encouraged to keep your appointment while you work on finding help.
Once you have your appointment, follow these steps to seek financial assistance:
- Call the clinic where your appointment is scheduled and tell them you need help paying for your care. Many clinics have financial assistance programs and are able to screen you for funding from abortion funds they work with.
IF YOU ARE A MISSOURI RESIDENT: Missouri Abortion Fund partners with clinics to help pay for Missourians’ abortion care. If the clinic where your appointment is scheduled is listed here under “our partners”, ask them to screen you for assistance. You can also mention Missouri Abortion Fund specifically. If the clinic where your appointment is scheduled is not included on that list, please email Missouri Abortion Fund at [email protected].
- If you have gone through step 1 and still need additional funding, you can search for potential options using I Need An Abortion’s Support Organizations Database and National Network of Abortion Funds. Most funds provide instructions for requesting financial assistance on their websites. Sometimes it takes several days to hear back from funds, so make your request as soon as possible.
If you have questions or need any help finding financial assistance, text Right By You at 855-458-0886 for confidential and anonymous help.

I found a clinic in Missouri that looks like it offers abortion. Can I get an abortion there?
Abortion is banned in Missouri, and there are no clinics that provide abortion in the state. There are over 90 fake clinics, sometimes known as “crisis pregnancy centers” or “pregnancy resource centers” that try to make themselves look like abortion providers, but their goal is to stop people from having abortions. They may offer free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and STI testing, and often say they provide “abortion information” or “abortion counseling” but are in fact anti-abortion organizations.
Fake clinics have been known to lie about the safety of abortion and use emotional manipulation to try to talk people out of their abortion decisions. If you are not sure whether the clinic you’ve found is a fake clinic, you can visit Expose Fake Clinics and search its list of fake clinics in Missouri. You can also learn more about how to spot a fake clinic here. To access care, visit INeedAnA or abortionfinder.org to locate services nearest you.
I’ve heard about ordering pills online to have my abortion at home. Is that an option for me?
People get abortion pills without going in person to a clinic in two ways:
Telemedicine abortion is available in states that allow it. Telemedicine abortion allows patients to meet with a healthcare provider virtually using an electronic device, and then have abortion medication mailed to them within the state where they had their virtual appointment.
Missouri does not allow telemedicine abortion. Missourians can travel to a state that allows telemedicine abortion, attend their appointment, and then have their medication mailed to them at an address within that state. However, this may not be the most practical option for many people, who may choose to get their care at a clinic instead of waiting for their medication to be mailed. In addition, there may be legal risks with medication abortion if any part of the abortion takes place in Missouri or another state that has banned abortion. If you have concerns about legal risks, contact the Repro Legal Helpline at 844-868-2812.
Self-managed abortion takes place when a person ends their pregnancy without involving a healthcare provider. People self-manage their abortions for a lot of different reasons and in a variety of ways, including by ordering pills online, which research shows can be medically safe and effective. People who self-manage their abortions may face legal risk, and anyone with legal concerns about self-managed abortion can contact the Repro Legal Helpline at 844-868-2812.
I have other questions about accessing abortion care.
